Thanksgiving Serving #3: Giant TurkeyIt's Thanksgiving this week and what better time to fill in some gaping holes in the D&D Monster Manual. Unexplainably, the turkey was left out and adventurers everyywhere have been deprived of the chance to encounter one of these beautiful birds of prey(ed upon). This third entry is for the Giant Turkey, which, although only found in remote areas, can give the party a run for its money if it sets its sights on them. Giant Turkey CR 3 N Large Magical Beast Init +3; Senses Listen +10, Spot +7 AC 15, touch 12, flat-footed 12 Fort +5, Ref +7, Will +3 Speed 20 ft. Melee 1d6+4, 2 talons; 1d8+2, bite Base Atk +7 Abilities Str 18, Dex 17, Con 12, Int 6, Wis 14, Cha 10 Description: Because of it weight, a giant turkey is flightless. Its oversized girth fives it a heightened sense of, less fear? Okay, it's just not a skittish as its smaller cousin. A giant turkey is not overly aggressive and will become discouraged at the first sign difficulty in dealing with its prey. If it takes more than 5 points of damage, it will simply lose interest and wander away. Combat: The goal of a giant turkey is food. It will attack in its first couple of rounds with its bite. As soon as it takes it's first round of damage, it deals one more full attack and then backs away. DM Tips and Tricks - A giant turkey might be found in the area of other giants. Obviously not a serious threat, it can be used as a foreshadow of things to come. It can also be used to lighten the mood before the serious monsters set in. All artwork in this series was provided by the ever-popular Devil Dan, a fan-favorite over at the Dundjinni mapping forums. Check out his recent free Monster Art Pack recently released on the download page. Although well-known for his top-down views of creatures, Devil Dan graciously produced a number of fabulous front view shots for this series. dDemonicAngels is the online identity of Bil White, a freelance writer living in Montreal. Bil loves the idea of scaring his party with large turkey bones and plans to add something similar in his campaign. Hee hee...
