Snow fell hard that fateful night. Some say there was magic in the air and each snowflake danced about as if looking for that perfect place to settle down. Witnesses will tell you that there was nary a wind and the snow seemed as if it would go on forever...
It was mid-morning before the snow stopped and mid-afternoon before the first traveller stumbled into town. The story he told spread like wild fire and soon there was a group of cold but determined townspeople ready to head out for Hightower Mansion . It took them an hour of trudging through the deep snow and when they arrived they found the traveller's story to be true.
The massive, undulating vines that had protected the structure for so many years had been stilled. No longer a threatening wall of green death, the vines appeared to be frozen in place. The thorns and leaves had fallen off during the night leaving smooth steel-like trunks that lost their sense of danger. One could almost see through the vines to the mansion itself.
It was young Jason Farfinger who noticed it first. Not only had the vines given up their defensive posture, it appeared as if a trail had been laid through the icy tubes and one could actually make their way through. A hush fell on the crowd as the implications finally set in.
After 29 years, the secrets of Hightower Mansion and its inhabitants were about to be revealed...
